About

About SOSW

Since the formation of Survivors Of Stroke Wales (SOSW) in 2013 we have been seeking out and helping stroke survivors who have been discharged from hospital and signed off by the system, leaving them with no future rehabilitaion programme and struggling to come to terms with suffering a stroke.

During this time, we have also been lucky enough to have been able to help with the formation of stroke groups as well as support existing stroke groups.

We have been able to support ARNI Wales, now known as; Neurological Rehabilitation Wales (NRW), a stroke rehabilitaion team (the only one in Wales) by purchasing a piece of equipment called a Nustep Crosstrainer for them to use to help stroke survivors regain use of their arms and legs.

We have been fortunate to be able to help individuals by arranging for them to receive this specialised training and this has produced very successful outcomes for those individuals.

We have also helped several individual survivors in a number of other ways, through funding specifically designed programmes to help them regain abilities they had lost through stroke, e.g. reading and writing. We have also purchased mobility aids such as a wheelchairs and mobility scooters in order to help survivors regain some of the independence they had prior to the stroke.

Since 2013 we have supported individuals and stroke groups to the sum of £21,831.91

"The charity was formed by myself (Will), my wife (Gill) and my sister (Ann) following a stroke in 2008 and a number of TIA's (mini strokes). I found that there was little to no support for either survivors or their families after being discharged from hospital.

As a survivor myself, I believe that every stroke survivor should have the chance to achieve the best possible recovery through rehabilitation. There is a massive need for rehabilitation to help survivors make that progress after discharge from hospital."

Treatment

Pen Y Fan

April 2018

On Sunday 8th April 2018, myself and 27 adults, 3 children, 7 dogs and a pair of crutches took on the challenge of Pen y Fan in aid of SOSW.

Congratulation to all for a brilliant achievement and sincere thank you for your support of SOSW by raising sponsorship.

As soon as all sponsorship is collected, we shall let everyone know how well we have done! - Will Nedin
